Devastator vs. chainsaw and shotgun. Hrmm.
Ash was being a crybaby, so Duke had to show him what's up.
Yes, crappy lighting/background are crappy. However, this was inspired a loooooong time ago by an interview with Bruce Campbell where he said he hated Duke Nukem for ripping him off. Actually, here are TWO nice little tidbits:V: Are you familiar with the game Duke Nukem 3-D? If so, are you aware of the similarities between its lead character and Ash in the way of mentality and catch phrases? Are you flattered by this sort of "borrowing" of your work?
BC: What can I say? Maybe they're just cheese-balls who can't conceive of an original idea and feel compelled to rip off Ash. Imitation is indeed a form of flattery, but paying a guy is an even better form.
And the other:
IGN For Men: The Duke Nukem videogame character is obviously an homage to you, at least your attitude...
Bruce Campbell: What?!
IGN For Men: The Duke Nukem character?
Bruce Campbell: Really?
IGN For Men: I would say so.
Bruce Campbell: I'm kidding, I'm well aware of Duke Nukem.
IGN For Men: Have you been approached for the movie at all?
Bruce Campbell: No, and I would say no because of the way they've handled it.
IGN For Men: How have they handled it?
Bruce Campbell: Well, they're rip-off artists. Let them get their own damn material. It's called hiring a writer. They're blatantly ripping it off and if I was any kind of litigious guy they would've gotten a phone call by now. It's depressing and I think it's wrong. That's why Tachyon: The Fringe will kick little Duke's ass any day.
source: wish I had it, but it was from ign.com
I really hate to say it, but these interviews made me lose respect for Bruce Campbell. When I heard "lawl, Bruce hates Duke" I thought it was going to be in good humor. But wow, what a bitch.
If there's anything worse than not giving credit where credit is due, it's people who want credit where credit is not due. The Evil Dead series and the character of Ash are themselves parody. That's why they have a cult following. Duke Nukem is the same thing, and not ripping anybody off (unless Bruce is trying to say he invented parody, lolol). In fact, it makes several references to action/horror/sci-fi pop culture so that people who know about it will enjoy it; as the interviewer said, it's called "homage" but I guess that's not part of Bruce's vocabulary.
And he should really stop crying about it. There are plenty of people who only became interested in the Evil Dead series BECAUSE of Duke Nukem, like myself. I own the DVDs, so Bruce Campbell must have made some money somewhere.
I really hope Bruce Campbell paid Elvis's estate for the use of "Hail to the king, baby" and whoever owns the rights to The Day the Earth Stood Still (the old good one, not the new shitty one) for "Klatuu Barada Nicto" and so on. CUZ IF NOT, BRUCE OWES THEM A PHONE CALL AND HE BETTER PAY UP.
OMG that's enough of my old action figure pics and tl;dr diatribes for now.
